Ladbrokes Hyde Park Club casino chips and high-value plaques are a legendary piece of gambling trivia because they were never actually used in public.
The chips were manufactured in anticipation of the grand opening of Ladbrokes' premier London venue, the Hyde Park Casino (also referenced as the Hyde Park Club). However, before the casino could officially open its doors to the public, Ladbrokes lost its license to operate casinos following a high-profile regulatory crackdown and legal battle in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Because the venue never opened, the entire mint run of casino chips—ranging from standard round chips to ultra-high-denomination £5,000 and £10,000 plaques—was completely shelved. Over the years, some of these pristine, "un-played" chips leaked into the secondary market, making them incredibly rare and highly sought-after treasures for casino chip collectors worldwide
The set includes five chips: 50p £1 £5 £25 and £100 and they are in excellent condition.
